Vertex Transport is looking for an experienced HGV Class 1 Driver to join our busy transport operation based in Rotherham. The Role

As an HGV Class 1 Driver with Vertex Transport, you will be responsible for safely moving goods and equipment across our customer network. The work is based from Rotherham, with regular activity across South Yorkshire, the East Midlands and wider UK routes. Drivers may find themselves heading towards Mansfield for regional movements, Grimsby for Humber-linked logistics, Banbury for Midlands and southern route connections, Felixstowe for port-related traffic, and Exeter for longer-distance haulage requirements.

Roll On Roll Off experience is a key requirement for this vacancy. You should already understand how to approach RoRo work safely, including positioning, securing, loading awareness and site safety. You will not be expected to cut corners. We want drivers who will take the time to carry out checks properly, follow site instructions and report any issues before they become problems.

The role sits within our general haulage operation, so flexibility is important. While Roll On Roll Off work is central to this position, you may also be involved in other Class 1 movements where needed. This can include depot-to-depot work, customer collections, deliveries into industrial sites, port-related work, and trunking between key logistics areas such as Rotherham, Mansfield, Banbury, Grimsby, Felixstowe and Exeter.

Key Responsibilities

• Driving HGV Class 1 vehicles safely and professionally in line with UK road transport legislation.
• Carrying out Roll On Roll Off movements where required, ensuring safe positioning, handling and securing procedures.
• Completing daily vehicle checks and reporting defects promptly to the transport office.
• Following planned routes from Rotherham and across customer locations including Mansfield, Banbury, Grimsby, Felixstowe and Exeter.
• Completing delivery notes, collection paperwork, PDA updates or electronic transport records accurately.
• Working with transport planners, yard teams, customer site staff and other drivers to keep movements running smoothly.
• Ensuring loads are secure, safe and compliant before leaving site.
• Maintaining high standards of road safety, driver conduct and customer service.
• Following working time rules, tachograph regulations and all company procedures.
• Representing Vertex Transport in a professional manner at depots, ports, industrial sites and customer premises.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a dependable driver who knows the HGV industry and understands the importance of doing the basics well. You should be comfortable working independently, but also happy to stay in contact with the transport team when plans change. Good drivers make a big difference to the service our customers receive, and we value people who are reliable, calm and safety-focused.

• Valid UK HGV Class 1 licence, also known as Category C+E.
• Proven Roll On Roll Off experience is essential.
• Valid Driver CPC qualification.
• Valid Digital Tachograph Card.
• Good understanding of UK drivers’ hours, working time directive and tachograph rules.
• Confident with vehicle checks, defect reporting and load safety.
• Previous general haulage experience would be an advantage.
• Comfortable with regional and national routes, including Rotherham, Mansfield, Banbury, Grimsby, Felixstowe and Exeter.
• Professional attitude when dealing with customers, site staff and transport colleagues.
• Good timekeeping and a sensible, safety-first approach to driving.

This role may suit an experienced Class 1 driver based in Rotherham or within commuting distance of South Yorkshire, including drivers from Mansfield and the surrounding areas. We also welcome interest from drivers familiar with routes through Banbury, Grimsby, Felixstowe and Exeter, particularly where you have handled Roll On Roll Off work, port traffic, construction-related movements or industrial haulage.
