Tramping Driver Job – Multi Drop Experience – Banbury – Up to £56,189

Company: Prime Freight Solutions

Role: HGV Tramping Driver

Category: General Haulage

Location: Banbury

Salary: Up to £56,189 per year

Overview

Prime Freight Solutions is recruiting an experienced HGV Tramping Driver to join our general haulage operation based in Banbury. This is a strong opportunity for a professional driver with solid multi drop experience, good route planning skills and the confidence to work across a varied national transport network.

This role will suit a reliable Class 1 driver who is comfortable being out during the week, managing nights out, completing deliveries safely and representing the business well at customer sites. You will be working from Banbury, with regular movements across the Midlands, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Shropshire. Drivers based in or around Rugby, Bicester, Buckingham, Telford, Burton upon Trent and Chesterfield are encouraged to apply.

We are looking for someone who understands the pace of UK general haulage. The work can involve multiple drops, collections, RDCs, customer depots, industrial estates and business parks. You will need to be organised, calm under pressure and able to keep communication clear with the transport office.

This is not a job for someone who wants the same run every day. It is a proper tramping driver position, covering a mix of planned routes and live transport requirements. One week you may be running out through Rugby and Bicester, the next you could be delivering towards Telford, Burton upon Trent or Chesterfield. If you enjoy variety, professional driving and getting the job done properly, this role could be a very good fit.

About Prime Freight Solutions

Prime Freight Solutions is a growing UK logistics and general haulage provider, supporting customers with reliable transport across regional and national routes. Our Banbury operation is well placed for access to the M40, M1, M6, A43 and A34, making it a practical base for drivers travelling from Rugby, Bicester, Buckingham and surrounding areas.

We pride ourselves on straightforward communication, well-planned work and a professional approach to transport. We understand that drivers are central to the success of any haulage business, so we work hard to provide clear instructions, realistic expectations and support from an experienced traffic team.

Our work reaches many major logistics corridors, including routes towards Chesterfield, Telford and Burton upon Trent. This makes the position ideal for an experienced tramping driver who is used to running across the Midlands and beyond.

The Tramping Driver Role

As a Tramping Driver, you will be responsible for carrying out general haulage deliveries and collections, with a focus on safe, timely and professional service. You will be away from base during the working week, taking your required rest periods in the vehicle and working in line with drivers’ hours regulations.

The work will include multi drop deliveries, so previous experience in this area is essential. You should be comfortable planning your day, checking paperwork, liaising with customers, managing delivery times and keeping the transport office updated if anything changes on the road.

Loads and routes may vary, with deliveries and collections across Banbury, Rugby, Bicester, Buckingham, Burton upon Trent, Telford, Chesterfield and wider UK locations. You will be expected to complete vehicle checks, secure loads correctly and maintain a professional standard at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive HGV Class 1 vehicles on general haulage routes from the Banbury operation.
  • Complete tramping work, including nights out during the week as required.
  • Carry out multi drop deliveries and collections safely and efficiently.
  • Deliver to customer sites, depots, RDCs, industrial estates and commercial premises.
  • Plan and manage daily routes in line with transport office instructions.
  • Complete daily vehicle checks and report any defects promptly.
  • Ensure loads are checked, safe and secure before departure.
  • Maintain accurate delivery paperwork, PODs and transport documentation.
  • Use digital tachograph and follow all drivers’ hours and working time rules.
  • Communicate clearly with planners, customers and site staff.
  • Represent Prime Freight Solutions professionally at all times.
  • Work across regular logistics areas including Rugby, Bicester, Buckingham, Telford, Burton upon Trent and Chesterfield.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a dependable, experienced driver who knows how to handle tramping work properly. You will need to be confident with multi drop transport, able to work independently and happy to cover varied routes across the UK.

Drivers applying from Banbury, Rugby, Bicester and Buckingham will find the base convenient, while drivers from wider haulage areas such as Telford, Burton upon Trent and Chesterfield may also be suitable depending on travel arrangements and tramping patterns.

Requirements

  • Valid HGV Class 1 / Category C+E licence.
  • Valid Driver CPC qualification.
  • Valid digital tachograph card.
  • Proven multi drop experience is required.
  • Previous tramping experience is strongly preferred.
  • Good understanding of UK road networks and general haulage operations.
  • Knowledge of drivers’ hours, tachograph rules and working time regulations.
  • Ability to complete paperwork accurately and manage PODs correctly.
  • Professional attitude when dealing with customers and transport staff.
  • Reliable, punctual and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable with nights out in the vehicle during the week.
  • No serious driving offences; licence checks will apply.

Benefits

  • Salary up to £56,189 per year, depending on experience, shift pattern and agreed terms.
  • Regular tramping work with a well-positioned Banbury-based transport operation.
  • Varied general haulage routes across the Midlands and wider UK network.
  • Opportunity to work routes covering Rugby, Bicester, Buckingham, Chesterfield, Telford and Burton upon Trent.
  • Supportive transport office with clear communication and planning.
  • Professional working environment with a focus on safety and compliance.
  • Nights out for drivers who enjoy working independently on the road.
  • Ongoing work with a growing logistics business.
  • Suitable for experienced drivers seeking a long-term HGV tramping position.

Working Pattern

This is a tramping position, so you should expect to be out during the week, with nights out as part of the role. Exact start times, finish times and weekly patterns will depend on customer requirements, route planning and legal driving hours.

The transport team will aim to plan work sensibly and keep drivers informed. However, as with most general haulage roles, some flexibility is needed. Deliveries may include early starts, long-distance trunking, regional multi drop work and collections from customer sites.

Typical areas of work may include movements around Banbury, Rugby, Bicester, Buckingham, Telford, Burton upon Trent and Chesterfield, as well as other UK delivery points. If you know these transport routes and are comfortable with live logistics demands, you will settle into the role quickly.

Why This Banbury HGV Job Stands Out

Banbury is a strong location for haulage drivers, with excellent access to major routes and a wide range of logistics activity nearby. For drivers living in Rugby, Bicester or Buckingham, the base is practical and well connected. The wider route network also suits experienced drivers familiar with transport corridors towards Telford, Burton upon Trent and Chesterfield.

This role offers genuine variety. You will not be stuck doing one simple run every day. Instead, you will be carrying out proper general haulage work, dealing with different customers, different delivery points and different routes. That makes it ideal for a driver who enjoys responsibility and takes pride in doing the job well.

Prime Freight Solutions values drivers who communicate well, look after the vehicle, treat customers properly and stay compliant. If you are an experienced HGV tramping driver with multi drop experience, this is a strong opportunity to join a business that understands UK transport.

Who Should Apply?

This role is ideal for a professional HGV driver who has already worked in multi drop haulage and understands the demands of tramping. You may already be working from Banbury, or you may be based in nearby transport areas such as Rugby, Bicester or Buckingham. We are also happy to hear from experienced drivers with links to Chesterfield, Telford or Burton upon Trent, particularly if you are used to working away from home and covering national routes.

You should be confident speaking with customers, able to handle unexpected delays sensibly and willing to keep the transport team updated throughout the day. A good attitude matters. We want someone who is safe, steady and professional, not someone who cuts corners.
